For me, it works to take down the little table when I'm not using it(and I have the exact same one, that cracks me up). It helps the space seem bigger when we're not using it, and it makes it a bigger deal to use it.
The best tip I have for a small space is to think about what things you can hang on the wall or a door. You can use an over-the-door shoe holder to store some supplies for example.
